The MENTOR Initiative supported safe drinking water distribution across displacement camps in Khan Younis during September and October, reaching thousands of people each day through coordinated water trucking services.
In Gaza, where nearly all families remain affected by displacement and critical water infrastructure continues to deteriorate, access to safe drinking water remains a daily challenge.
Despite fuel shortages, infrastructure damage and access constraints, our teams continued delivering this essential service to help reduce the risk of water-borne diseases and support the health of displaced communities.
Since water distribution activities began in June, 20 cubic metres of drinking water have been distributed daily across camps in Khan Younis reaching between 3,000 and 3,500 people every day. Over three months the total amount delivered was 1,260 cubic metres (1,260,000 litres), enough to fill half an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Site assessments took place before the intervention, and data was collected in coordination with camp representatives and community leaders. The findings were subsequently shared and coordinated with the WASH Cluster, which also monitored and followed up on the intervention to ensure an effective and targeted response.
“When clean water is scarce, the risk of disease rises rapidly. In Gaza, nearly all families are affected by displacement and a lack of water infrastructure, making water distribution in humanitarian settings even more critical.” – Nabil El Halabi, MENTOR Operations Officer.
