Promoting good hygiene practices is important in communities affected by neglected tropical diseases. The delivery of hygiene promotion messages is specific to the context and integrates local customs and traditions. A tailored approach ensures interventions are effective and lead to sustainable behaviour change.
One key aspect is reaching children as early learners with hygiene promotion. Educating children about proper hygiene practices can have a significant impact on preventing the transmission of diseases. Through interactive and engaging educational activities, we aim to instil lifelong hygiene behaviours, and empower children to become hygiene champions within their communities.
Information about neglected tropical diseases is integrated into our hygiene promotion activities. Linking hygiene and disease prevention raises awareness about the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices to reduce the risk of disease transmission. This allows us to address both the immediate hygiene needs of communities and the long-term goal to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases.Through our hygiene promotion programmes we have seen a positive impact on behaviours and improved hygiene practices in various settings such as Mozambique and Venezuela.
