MENTOR works in some of the most vulnerable settings to prevent and treat neglected tropical diseases, a group of diseases that affect more than 1 billion people worldwide.
Together with our partners we are helping to reduce the harm and suffering from NTDs in communities disproportionately affected by a lack of healthcare, climate change, and poor shelter and sanitation.
Last year we also signed the Kigali Declaration, strengthening global collaborations and our commitment to end NTDs.
Our cross-cutting approach ensures we reach as many people as possible and over one year achieved:
- The delivery of over 11.9 million treatments for onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, soil-transmitted helminths and schistosomiasis under Mass Drug Administrations. These included campaigns that reached virtually inaccessible communities in Angola, refugees from Sudan, and internally displaced people in South Sudan.
- Indoor residual spraying in 325,830 households helped protect over 1.7million from leishmaniasis in conflict-affected Syria.
- Hygiene promotion to prevent diseases such as dengue and leishmaniasis reached around 1 million people in crisis situations such as in Venezuela and Syria.
(All figures from October 2023 to September 2024)
Our dedication to help eliminate NTDs in challenging contexts is unwavering as we move into 2025 and progress towards meeting the WHO road map targets.
