Laurence studied architecture at the University of Dundee graduating in 2005. After this he worked both in practice and in construction of several housing projects in Scotland. His interest in post disaster reconstruction began after responding to the reconstruction of Gulf Coast, Mississippi with Architecture for Humanity following Hurricane Katrina in 2006. This led to several response projects eventually working with UN Migration in 2014.
In 2016 Laurence started lecturing at the school of architecture at University of Dundee, running a unit called ‘Design for Displacement’. He introduces Year 5 students to the challenges faced with the increased movement of people due to climate and conflict. His research into transitional and core shelter and architectural anthropology led to winning the Martin Jones Scholarship in 2023. He is also the Technical Program Manager for Global hospital, specialising in mobile hospital provisions in Africa and the Middle East.
