Humanitarian Networks and Partnership Week

MENTOR was delighted to join the panel discussing scaling health innovations in emergencies at the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks – HNPW in Geneva on Tuesday (10 March).

Led by Creating Hope in Conflict: a Humanitarian Grand Challenge and Gray Dot Catalyst, the session focused on how building value networks to scale up innovations is helping meet urgent health needs in humanitarian settings.

MENTOR presented our programme in Syria which is combining the free distribution of SC Johnson’s Guardian and Shield spatial repellents in vulnerable IDP camp settings with the simultaneous introduction of these vector-control tools to local markets.

This long-term approach aims to shift spatial repellents from a humanitarian-only tool to a sustainable public health solution – strengthening supply chains and creating the potential to replicate this model in similar settings.

Speaking on the panel, MENTOR’s Adrian Connelly, said: “This hybrid solution is a necessary, viable new way to ensure long-term protection and reduced transmission of vector-borne diseases in fragile, humanitarian settings.”

We are grateful to Her Royal Highness Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan, who opened the panel and drew attention to the magnitude of needs and challenges in emergencies, especially around maternal and new born health. Also, huge thanks to Zainah Alsamman from Grand Challenges Canada CHIC for moderating the panel.
